The Sinister Six have returned with their most ambitious plot yet: hijacking a satellite launch to disperse a lethal poison across the globe. While Peter Parker attempts to provide emotional support to a grieving Aunt May, he is nearly killed by a mysterious assassination attempt at his apartment, unaware that the obsessed Jonathan Caesar has escaped and is closing in on Mary Jane. The tension peaks at the Cordco launch site, where the Six stage a brutal assault. Spider-Man intervenes but is quickly overwhelmed by the combined might of his enemies. When Sandman attempts to protect the wall-crawler, Doctor Octopus reveals a specialized weapon that transforms the sand-based villain into a fragile, inert glass statue. The issue ends in disaster as the rocket launches and the Hobgoblin douses a distracted Spider-Man with a concentrated dose of Doc Ock's deadly toxin.
