The life of a high-road thief is never simple, as Red Sonja learns after a daring robbery of the notorious brigand Rejak. While Sonja makes off with a fortune in looted goods, she underestimates the depth of her victim's vanity and rage. Rejak, humiliated by the theft, transforms from a mere warlord into a singular force of vengeance, tracking the She-Devil across the wilderness with predatory precision.

As Sonja attempts to put distance between herself and her pursuers, Rejak’s path is marked by total devastation. Unwilling to let anything—or anyone—slow his progress, the brigand executes anyone he encounters who might have seen the warrior or aided her escape. Sonja soon realizes that this is no longer a simple chase for gold, but a "Blood of the Hunter" contract that can only end when one of them lies dead in the dust.
