While Master Splinter uses deep meditation to track the villainous Bloodsucker and battle the psychic influence of the "Old Man," the Turtles and Abanak travel upriver via a magically propelled canoe to the ancient Wisdom Stone. There, the Old Man—a survivor of a prehistoric civilization who merged with the river—reveals he orchestrated the Turtles' regression to study their unique mutations, eventually freezing them and seizing control of Splinter's mind. The tide turns when the regressed Raphael bites the Old Man and lures Bloodsucker over a waterfall, allowing Splinter to break free and sever the ancient one's connection to the river's energy. As the Old Man withers into nothingness and Abanak assumes the mantle of the new river master, Raphael manages to drain his stolen mutagen back from Bloodsucker, restoring himself to normal and allowing the brothers to return home, unaware that a tiny leech has swallowed the glowing remains of the former river god.
