The villain Savanti Romero communicates across time to challenge the Turtles to a battle in the Cretaceous Era's "Ring of Fire," prompting the Timestress Apprentice Renet to appear and transport the TMNT back in time. After confronting dinosaurs and Savanti, the sorcerer captures Renet and reveals his master plan: use a cosmic energy bolt channeled through the Time Scepter to cause massive volcanic eruptions, changing Earth's orbit just enough to prevent the dinosaur-killing meteor from ever hitting, thereby undoing the rise of both mammals and the Turtles. During the climactic battle, the cosmic bolt strikes, destroying Savanti and the Scepter, but trapping the heroes in the past until, three months later, Mikey miraculously finds the Scepter inside a giant fish, allowing them all to finally return to their own time.
