Big game hunter Mr. Marlin, having just killed the last Madagascan Blue Elephant, arrives in New York City seeking "exotic" new prey, while being secretly pursued by an armed man vowing to arrest him. After battling the Foot Clan, the Turtles are spied upon in the sewer by large eyes. Marlin and his men soon stumble upon the TMNT and fire upon them, forcing the Turtles to retreat into a secret door. Inside, they find a hidden apartment and laboratory, but Marlin breaks through the wall, intending to make the Turtles his trophies.
Suddenly, a giant alligator-man attacks—Leatherhead! He explains that he was an ordinary alligator accidentally mutated by the Utroms and now seeks to contact them to be taken to their homeworld. The group is again surprised by Marlin, and during the struggle, Leatherhead breaks a bridge, separating the hunter from the TMNT. Before Marlin can shoot the trapped mutants, the pursuing lawman appears, stabbing Marlin’s hand and identifying himself as an animal rights representative there to arrest the hunter. Marlin recoils, stumbles, and falls into the pit to his apparent death. The Turtles then lead Leatherhead to their old lair, a safe place for him to continue his work.
