The streets of New York become a battlefield as Thermo, the Thermatronic Man, nearly kills Spider-Man by draining his body heat. Rescued by the combined efforts of the mercenary Paladin and the mutant Dazzler, a weakened Peter Parker is taken to Alison Blaire’s apartment to recover. While the heroes regroup and Spider-Man works to modify Paladin’s "nullifier" technology, Thermo finds a new power base by hijacking a local cult, using lethal force to convince the followers of his divinity.

The conflict escalates when Thermo’s cultists kidnap Christine Michaels and Dazzler, bringing them to a secret basement headquarters to witness Thermo's ultimate ascension. Armed with a newly engineered nullifier helmet, Spider-Man and Paladin launch a desperate rescue mission. Amidst the chaos of bio-electric blasts and blinding light displays, the heroes must find a way to stabilize Thermo's energy before he consumes everyone around him—including his own wife.
